John graduated from the USAF Academy with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry in 1978. During his USAF career John flew the AT-38, the F-4, the F-16 and the B-1. John retired from the USAF in 1998 and holds a Multi-engine Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Commercial Single Engine and and sea ratings.
He has a Masters degree in Management and Education.
John began working at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport in 1998. He has served as the Airport Security Manager (1998-2001), the Operations Manager (2001-2004), the Deputy Director (2004-2008) and the Airport Manager.(2008-2017).
After leaving the airport John founded JPAir Aviation Consultancy and is actively engaged in aviation and airport safety, development and efficiency. John became the Director of the King County International Airport/Boeing Field in January of 2019.
John is an Accredited Airport Executive. He is a member of the Alaska District Export Council and Export Advisory Council of Alaska.
John is a former Board member of the American Association of Airport Executives, a Past President of the Northwest Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives, a Past Chair of the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska Board of Management and served as an Ex Officio Advisor to the Visit Anchorage Board and the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation Board. He is a Board Member of the International Association of Airport Executives.
John lives south of Seattle with his wife Dee and their daughters Lexus and Sara. They enjoy their horses, dogs, rabbits, goats, peafowl and chickens. Lexus and Sara enjoy karate lessons. Dee is a member of the local garden club and stays busy planting both flowering and food producing plants.
